Thursday, January 26, 2006 ::: Took some time off today. Really in need of some rest. Got hold of Rachel Stevens' Come and Get It. Yes it's a little late. But polydor ain't scheduling an international release for this masterpiece, and probably never will. So by deciding that it's not worth earning a few more bucks, they're just letting this surface sooner or later. Worst title ever for an album, but it's packed with really good stuff. Perhaps the real pop album of 2005 (if you place Confessions in the 'dance' category) Been listening to come clips on her myspace site www.myspace.com/rachelstevensofficial - and unfortunately she's chosen the worse tracks apart from the epic Crazy Boys to be featured in it. Apart from the fabulous singles Negotiate with Love and So Good, other album tracks like Funny How, Dumb Dumb, Every Little Thing, Crazy Boys, Nothing Good About This Goodbye are all ace. More than half of the album are singles material. Now seeing this album flop so badly and knowing that none of these great productions are going to see the light, is just a little sad. Another gem finally in my itunes playlist - The Veronicas! You know I've been wanting this for ages, and I've written about it more than several times ever since discovering their debut single '4ever'. I thought they would be huge since 4ever is simply written as a follow up to 'Since U Been Gone's success, apparently the girls have not dominated the business like Ms Clarkson did. But, their album is sheer brilliance and can easily top Kelly Clarkson's materials. 'Everything I'm Not', 'Mouth Shut', 'Leave Me Alone', 'When It All Falls Apart' are all gems. But it's hard these days to be popular. When you see the pseudo punk rock teen queen Avril Lavigne starts dressing like a women showing some cleavage on magazine covers you know that something's very wrong with this business. And now the Veronicas are trying to build an image similar to Lavigne's... well, it's just a little too hard for them to take off. Perhaps if they showed up a year or two earlier, or started out as disney channel favorites, or even soap characters in The Neighbours. American Idol could do too... There are a dozen ways to get famous. And a million ways to flop. Once again, isn't it a bit disheartening? Hear New Music First!
